Zuellig Pharma funds expanding vaccine access in Vietnam

April 17, 2019 | 09:00 PM GMT+7

Zuellig Pharma today announced a $600,000 support for a project to expand access to vaccines in Vietnam, particularly in remote areas.

Zuellig Pharma CEO John Davison delivers a speech at a conference on the project.

The project will be carried out in association with the National Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals, and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

The project is aimed at expanding access to vaccines in Vietnam through the use of eZCooler technology in ensuring the integrity and quality of pharmaceuticals as well as patient safety.

The Expanded Immunization Program, administered by the Ministry of Health since 1981, has been widely regarded as one of the most important national public health programmes in Vietnam, benefiting millions of women and children.

One of the key elements ensuring the success of the program, as well as the vaccine efficacy and safety for users, is that it must meet requirements in cold chain storage for vaccines.

It is essential that vaccines are stored continuously at a temperature of between 2°C and 8°C. Any deviation or interruption in the cold chain from production, storage, transport, and use can potentially damage the integrity of the vaccine, resulting in reduced efficacy and safety in treatment.

Under the agreement, Zuellig Pharma will contribute the innovative eZCooler, a temperature-controlled packaging solution to maintain product quality during transportation.

eZCooler with three capacities including 8 liters, 12 liters, and 96 liters would be provided in six northern provinces including Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, Son La, and Yen Bai.

The company will also cooperate with the institutes to provide employee training to the Medical Prevention Departments in the six provinces on international standards and Goods Storage Practices for cold chain supply management and usage of the eZCooler.
