Main goals of PRO Vietnam in 2022

By Kieu Mai March 26, 2022 | 08:00 AM GMT+7

After a long time was constrained by Covid-19, PRO Vietnam’s pilot activities will be stimulated this year.

Last year, the complication of the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly constrained Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam’s (PRO Vietnam) pilot collecting program.

Against that context, in addition to the strategically switch to online platforms for media exposure, PRO Vietnam and their members proactively contributed to charitable activities, especially the Saigon for Saigon Program with the total donation up to hundreds of billions dong, giving a hand to the front line of the battle against Covid-19, and strengthening the solidarity among the alliance members at the same time.

2022 is the year of transition toward an acceleration in organizing PRO Vietnam’s activities which focus on some main goals, it announced in the recent the annual meeting.

The first one is to cooperate with and support the Ministry of Resources and Environment to effectively build the implementation plan for the ERP Decree.

The second one is to enhance operational capacity. The third goal is to roll out at least three collecting campaigns for recycling projects.

The next is to collect and recycle at least 3.000 tons of each type of waste materials (namely PET, UBC, and laminates).

In addition, it will support pilot programs through behavioral change campaigns calling for regional waste sorting and recycling.

The last ones are to promote strategic partnerships with organizations to implement collecting activities toward the goal for recycling; and to expand the alliance’s membership base.

The annual meeting has ratified activity reports, commitments of all members to achieve the targets set for 2022, and aspirations for continuous endorsement from stakeholders to continue their mission of contributing to a green - clean - beautiful Vietnam and the circular economic model.

Established in 2019, PRO Vietnam is an alliance of leading businesses in consuming goods, retailing and packaging which share the common mission by promoting the circular economic model through transforming the processes of collecting and recycling product packages into more accessible and sustainable manner.

From the original nine founding members, PRO Vietnam has increased its membership to 19 along with other partners and like-minded organizations.

PRO Vietnam’s aspiration and vision are that all of the products produced and distributed in Vietnam by their members will be completely recycled and restored in Vietnam by 2030.

PRO Vietnam is set to achieve this objective by enhancing public awareness and accessibility to recycling in Vietnam, working in public venues, increasing the number of collecting points, improving the collecting process, as well as ensuring recycling capacity to readily process what have been consumed.

All of these measures will help reduce waste, bring a post-consumed second life to packages, and create more employment opportunities at the same time.

The fundamental principal of PRO Viet Nam is that the member should work together toward a common goal on recycling to achieve expedited results compare with individual’s effort.
