The government of Vietnam has decided to temporarily suspend the issue of new visas to all foreign visitors for 30 days, applicable since March 18.
The decision is made following a recent meeting of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Covid-19 prevention and control, showing the latest effort and stronger measure by the government to staunch the pandemic which has spread swiftly across the world and caused serious consequences.
As a result, from today, any people having visa exemption or other special cases as experts, business managers, skilled workers must have certificate that confirmed thay are not positive for coronavirus issued by local countries and approved by Vietnam. The measure is not applied to diplomats or to those who has official purposes.
Any cases of entry must undergo inspection and comply with appropriate pandemic prevention and control measures.
Phuc requested concentrated isolation for people coming from the U.S, European countries and ASEAN countries as well as isolation and medical supervision at home, enterprises, accommodation establishments and group supervision for subjects not under concentrated isolation.
Vietnam will continue to minimize the number of flights from virus-hit areas to the country.
These moves come after Vietnam has confirmed a surge in infections from overseas, making total case reach 66. Among them, 16 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from the hospital by February 26.
The country has denied entry to visitors from Europe’s Schengen area and Britain from Sunday. Earlier, it suspended visas for Chinese, Korean and Italian tourists.
