Vietnam has made the best progress among ASEAN countries in term of competitiveness ranking and the best improvement in Asia-Pacific in international openness and air transport infrastructure.
Vietnam has ranked 63rd among 140 countries and territories globally on the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report by World Economic Forum (WEF), advancing four spots compared to 2017.
In addition, it has secured the fifth position in the Southeast Asia region in tourism and travel competitiveness, following Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
The country has been seen to make significant progress on its travel and tourism policy and enabling conditions, which helps it jump 26 place to rank 79th overall.
For all subindex categories including prioritisation of travel and tourism, international openness, price competitiveness and environmental sustainability, the Southeast Asian nation have also achieved higher scores and improved its positions in two years.
In particular, the visa requirements of Vietnam in the international openness subindex have witnessed the greatest improvement when jumping 63 spots in the global ranking.
Vietnam also has made the most upgrading to its air transport infrastructure in Asia-Pacific, which puts the country in the 50th position globally, up 11 places from previous year.
Natural and cultural resources subindex of the country, meanwhile, has a slightly decrease compared to 2017 but still get a high ranking of 26th over 140 countries.
For over a decade, the WEF engaged leaders in travel and tourism to carry out an in-depth analysis of the travel and tourism competitiveness.
Published biennially, Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report and Index benchmarks the competitiveness of 140 economies and measures the set of factors and policies that enable the sustainable development of the travel and tourism sector, which in turn, contributes to the development and competitiveness of a country.
