The new-age carrier Vietjet and Boeing Commercial Airplanes signed an order contract for 100 B737 MAX aircraft worth a total of $12.7 billion yesterday at Farnborough International Airshow 2018 in United Kingdom.
According to this deal, a total of 100 B737 MAX aircrafts of Boeing will be delivered to Vietjet within four years time between 2022 and 2025.
Out of these aircrafts, 80 are the newly launched 737 MAX 10, the largest version of Boeing’s best-selling 737 range and 20 are the standard 737 MAX 8 version.
“We are honored to deepen our strong partnership with Vietjet as they become our newest 737 MAX 10 client," said Kevin McAllister, President & CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Headded that the agreement for a repeat order from Vietjet validated the best-in-class capabilities of the 737 MAX family of airplanes.
“With this agreement, we take another major step in growing our partnership with Vietjet, one that continues to contribute to the trade relationship between Vietnam and the United States. This agreement also grows Boeing’s presence and partnerships across Asia Pacific, developing win-win partnerships in a region with tremendous development potential,” he added.
Vietjet’s new order will go toward serving the carrier’s development of airline alliances across the Asia Pacific region and worldwide, and further enhance the airline’s fleet synchronization, modernization and fuel efficiency up to 2025.
As part of the deal, Boeing Commercial Airplanes has committed to carry out a series of strategic partnership programs to advance modern aviation service ecology in Vietnam including maintenance, repair and overhaul, training for pilot, technicians, engineers, etc.
Furthermore, special programs for improving the governance and automation capacities for airlines in Vietnam as well as the aviation industry in general will also be implemented.
In 2014, Vietjet also agreed to purchase and lease a total of 100 A320 and A321 aircrafts worth over $9.1 billion with Airbus, then in 2015, six more A321 aircrafts were purchased.
Once the deal with Boeing is finalized by 2025, it is estimated that Vietjet's fleet will have over 300 aircrafts, surpassing other domestic airlines in terms of quantity.
