The charter flight from Shenzhen’s Baoan International Airport in Guangdong province, China, landed at Van Don International Airport on May 27. This is the first international flight the airport has received after only five months of operation while it normally takes newly-launched airport three to five years to handle the same job.

The flight connecting Shenzhen and Van Don is serviced by Shenzhen-headquartered Donghai Airlines twice a week (on Monday and Friday). Van Don International Airport has committed to creating the best available conditions for the airline’s operation. This also comes as part of an attempt for the local airport to promote Vietnam’s tourist attractions of Van Don and Halong Bay to Shenzhen, and the Chinese market at large.

The first international flight from China also marks a milestone for Van Don International Airport in rolling out its strategy to further tap into other international markets, for which the short-term target would be the regional countries like Thailand, South Korea, Japan, and so on.

In June, Van Don International Airport is expected to exploit new international routes including Van Don-Taiwan via Bamboo Airways and Van Don - Incheon via Vietnam Airlines.

For the Chinese market in particular, there are going to be more routes to link Van Don with Hainan, Nanning and Guangzhou in the coming time.

Van Don International Airport has served 664 flights with over 90,000 passengers since it came into operation in December 2018.
