The Vietnam Association of Corporate Directors (VACD) has successfully organised the third annual general meeting to celebrate its 12-year establishment and elect board members for the upcoming 2019-2023 term.

VACD sucessfully held its third general meeting last Saturday

The meeting held in Hanoi last weekend drew the attention of nearly 200 corporate directors and researchers representing over 2,000 VACD members. The association has for years pursued a set target of ‘having a better corporate governance system’.

An executive committee of 50 members, including 19 members of the standing committee, was selected. VACD chairman Han Manh Tien has been re-elected for the third term. The role of secretary-general is now given to Cao Thi Thuy Nga, vice president of Golden Hearts Group.

The Vietnam CFO Club will be chaired by AsiaInvest chairman Nguyen Ngoc Bach, while the Vietnam Human Resources Club will be guided by Novaland’s former vice president Le Hong Phuc. The Vietnam Chief Sales & Marketing Officers Club, meanwhile, will be directed by ANHGROUP chairman Tran Ngoc Anh.

These three clubs will continue acting as the three key pillars of VACD.

TheLEADER, led by editor-in-chief Nguyen Cao Cuong, will carry on its role as the business leader forum and press office of VACD.

VACD was founded 12 years ago in the context of Vietnam’s joining the World Trade Organization and on the back of ongoing concerns on poor corporate governance and management of Vietnamese enterprises at the time.

VACD identifies its mission of building a better corporate governance foundation for every enterprise member and the entire business community in the country.

The association has fruitfully organised dozens of consulting and policy review seminars, as well as hundreds of training and coaching sessions related to various aspects of corporate governance and many other professional areas over the years.

With due efforts, each member of the VACD has contributed greatly to the association’s prominent achievements over the past periods. The awareness of business leaders on the role of corporate governance has been changed in a positive way. A more professional approach to corporate governance has now been correspondingly recognised among enterprises.

VACD chairman Tien acknowledged that there are a lot of tasks needed to be done in the coming time, as existing challenges still persist to threaten the development and competitive capability of many enterprises.

Tien thus affirmed the urgent need for changes to happen in the association itself given the rising of the fourth industrial revolution and deeper integration with the world, which at the end of the day may lead to additional challenges in corporate governance practices.

Striving for better corporate governance will therefore be the unchanged goal of the association.

In the coming years, VACD will further promote consulting activities, especially for small- and medium-sized enterprises, while updating training skills as well as adopting advanced technologies in VACD’s practices.
