Toyota follows Ford to suspend production in Vietnam due to coronavirus
Toyota Vietnam has temporarily shut down plant in Vinh Phuc province since March 30 due to coronavirus pandemic.
Toyota's vehicle production suspension in Vietnam was announced in the context that coronavirus pandemic is dealing a blow on all fields, including automotive industry.
Moreover, Toyota dealers in Hanoi has so far temporarily closed showrooms and service workshops as requested in new directive of the Government and Hanoi People's Committee to prevent the spread of the virus.
The car maker said the production resumption would depend on the pandemic situation, national restrictions, supplier constraints and dealers' requirements.
Earlier, Ford Vietnam was the first automotive company in the country to shut down factory from March 26, 2020 after just over two months investing $82 million to expand its plant in Hai Duong province.
Vietnam has so far recorded 204 Covid-19 cases, of whom 55 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
