The newly-elected State President Nguyen Phu Trong took an oath of office in late afternoon today, stating that Vietnam still faced many challenges ahead.

"Considering recent global events, it is impossible to anticipate what may happen next, so we shouldn’t be careless," he said.
The statement was made shortly immediately before nearly 500 deputies of the National Assembly, 99.79 per cent of whom had ratified him to be new President of Vietnam.
Trọng, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam said: "Now that I am both the General Secretary and the President, a position that the National Assembly has given me, there is a lot of work to be done."
The new State President has called on the nation to be more vigilant and dutiful than ever as it tackled new challenges.
Apart from it, the ongoing sixth session of the fourteenth National Assembly will consider and make decisions on many important issues, according to the National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
Highlight is the National Assembly's resolution approving Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The thing that CPTPP and relevant documents will be reviewed for passing will push further Vietnam’s integration into the international economy and create new motivation for the development of the country.
At the sixth session, the XIV National Assembly will consider passing nine bills, one resolution and giving opinions on six bills.
The bills and resolution include the Law on Anti-Corruption (amended); Law on the People’s Public Security Forces (amended); Law on Special Amnesty (amended); Law amending and supplementing some articles of the Law on Higher Education; Law on Animal Husbandry; Law of Cultivation; Vietnam’s Marine Police Law; Law on Protection of State Secrets; Law amending and supplementing the Laws related to the planning.
These are important bills which appeal attention from voters and the public. The sixth session of the XIV National Assembly will last until November 21, 2018.
