Korean car maker Ssangyong announces plans to assemble cars in Vietnam

Besides returning to Vietnam’s market through its exclusive distributor, Ssangyong Motor Company also plans to assemble cars in Vietnam for the purposes of lowering prices and increasing competitiveness vis-à-vis CBU (completely built-up) cars imported from ASEAN countries.

According to Ssangyong Motor, the company will begin selling imported CBU from Korea, with a sales target of 1,000 cars in 2018.
Then, the Korean car maker will carry out assembly and production activities in Vietnam. Ssangyong Motor left open a possibility to export these cars to the Southeast Asia’s markets.
Marking its return to Vietnam’s market, Ssangyong Motor has introduced four SUVs (sport utility vehicle): Tivoli, XLV, Stavic and G4 Rexton. These products are on display at the showroom of Daehan Motors Co., Ltd in Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC).
Daehan Motors Co., Ltd has officially become Ssangyong Motor’s exclusive distributor since October 12, 2017. In the near future, Daehan Motors will open two new dealers in Ho Chi Minh City and one new dealer in Hanoi.
According to Daehan Motors, the latest generation of Ssangyong Motor’s cars will be officially introduced at the Vietnam International Automobile Exhibition (VIMS) 2017, which is scheduled to take place in late October in HCMC.
Previously, Ssangyong Motor’s cars were also introduced in Vietnam through its two different importers, namely Valexim Auto Joint Stock Company (Valexim Auto) and Ha Noi Car Import-Export and Investment Joint-Stock Company (AutoK). However, after only a short time, Ssangyong’s cars were no longer sold by either importer.
