The joint venture between Canada-based Vision Transportation Group, Hai Dang Architectural Consultation and Construction Investment, and Sunny World Investment & Development Corporation had a working session with leaders of Quang Ninh province to present their plan to invest in series of mammoth projects in the locality.

Specifically, this joint-venture recommends the plans of three projects in Van Don special economic zone including the expressway linking Mong Cai and Van Don, the Hon Net - Con Ong deep-water port and industrial zone, and the urban complex in the north of Cai Bau island.

The total investment of the three projects is estimated at $10 - 15 billion.

The urban complex in the north of Cai Bau island is expected to include a residential area inspired by Monte Carlo in combination with commercial services on an area of 5,000 hectares.

The project is aimed at expanding the Central Business District (CBD) to the north, linking Van Don airport, Mong Cai border and Van Don heritage road by the modern transportation system. It is also expected to connect with other urban facilities along the coast, deep-water port in the south and the system of industrial parks and warehouses.

The Hon Net - Con Ong deep-water port and the industrial zone has a planning area of 500 hectares and the total investment of $1.2 billion.

The project includes 12 wharves with a capacity of 800,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) each and a terminal for containers and cargo. When the demand for each wharf reaches 70 per cent of the designed capacity, a new one will be developed.

The construction of the port system would be divided into different stages. In the first stage, a 350 – 400-meter long multi-function wharf would be constructed to accommodate the 150,000 DWT (Deadweight Tonnage) vessels.

The 100-km-long Mong Cai – Van Don expressway connecting Mong Cai border gate to five districts of Van Don would be used for freight and passenger transport.

This project’s feasibility study has been approved with the total investment of $493 million, the design speed of 100km per hour with four lanes, 20-year charging period.

The construction of the project is expected to be commenced in the third quarter of this year and completed by 2020.

After considering, Quang Ninh’s leaders agreed to let the consortium of three investors officially study the investment of three above-mentioned projects and direct the provincial authorities to set up the roadmap to soon implement the projects.
