Indonesian tax-free automobiles massively enter Vietnam

There were up to 1,995 cars with nine or fewer seats imported to Vietnam last week, mostly from Indonesia and Thailand.

Statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs shows that last week (from October 26 to November 2), the total number of automobiles imported to Vietnam decreased slightly by 0.8 per cent compared to the previous week.
Last week, Vietnamese automobile enterprises imported to Vietnam 3,188 units of automobiles with the total value of about $65.4 million. Whereas, the previous week experienced the import of 3,214 units worth $64.2 million.
Automobiles entering Vietnam last week were mostly manufactured in Thailand and Indonesia with 1,743 units and 1,287 units respectively. Vietnam also imports vehicles originating from other markets such as China, Mexico, and the UK.
Automobiles imported to Vietnam last week were mostly cars with nine or fewer seats with 1,995 units worth $37 million, 372 units lower than the figure for the previous week. These vehicles accounted for 62.6 per cent of the total number of imported automobiles.
These cars were mostly manufactured in Indonesia with 1,287 units, almost double the automobiles rooted in Thailand. There were also 25 units of this type imported from Mexico and 25 units from the UK.
Last week also experienced 1,114 units of imported trucks with a total value of more than $24 million, including up to 1,097 units from Thailand.
In terms of special-purpose vehicles, Vietnamese enterprises imported 79 units with a total value of $7.3 million. Most of these vehicles were from China with 77 units.
