Hundreds of duty-free cars imported to Vietnam plummet from skyscraper

The number of nine seaters or fewer cars imported to Vietnam in the past week suddenly dropped sharply to 759 units, equivalent to nearly 40 per cent of the total car imports in the previous week.

2,264 cars of various kinds were imported to Vietnam last week

Statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs shows that last week (from August 31 to September 6, the total number of automobiles imported to Vietnam decreased by 27 per cent compared to the previous week.

Last week, Vietnamese automobile enterprises imported to Vietnam 2,264 units of automobiles with the total value of about $53.7 million. Whereas, the previous week experienced the import of up to 3,089 units worth $59.27 million.

Automobiles entering Vietnam last week were mostly manufactured in Thailand with 1,485 units. There were also 462 units from Indonesia and 200 units from Mexico.

Automobiles imported to Vietnam last week are mostly cars of nine seaters or fewer with 1,370 units worth $32 million, accounting for 60,5 per cent of the total number of imported automobiles.

These cars were mostly manufactured in Thailand with 807 units, accounting for 58,9 per cent of the total number of nine or fewer seat cars entering Vietnam last week. There were also 462 units of this type imported from Indonesia, 43 units from England and some from Germany and Russia.

Last week experienced no unit of over nine-seater automobile entering Vietnam while 679 units of trucks were imported to Vietnam worth nearly $14.15 million in total. Specifically, 678 units of these cars were manufactured in Thailand, accounting for up to 99.9 per cent.

In terms of special-purpose vehicles, Vietnamese enterprises imported 215 units with the total value of $7.5 million. Two hundred units of these vehicles were from Mexico, four units were from the U.S and three units were from China.
