“The welcoming of the six millionth international visitor to HCMC marks a successful start of the city in developing tourism over the passing time,” said Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Bui Ta Hoang Vu.

According to statistics, the number of international visitors to the city in 2017 is expected to reach over 6.3 million people, 22.9 per cent higher than last year and 10 per cent higher than the plan. The total turnover of tourism this year increased by 12.6 per cent compared to the same period of last year, reaching nearly VND116,000 billion (roughly US$5.11 billion).

The development of tourism products has been evaluated positively, reflected in many activities such as the development of waterway tourism products in the 2017-2020 period, improving the quality of Bui Vien walking street, promoting the development of medical tourism and culinary tourism.

Vietnam Airlines is currently operating 23 international direct flights to the city with 4-star international standard services, many of which are operated by the new generation aircraft Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900.

In 2017, Vietnam Airlines estimates to transport more than 1.7 million passengers on direct flights to HCMC.

These results are gained thanks to the 2017-2018 comprehensive cooperation signed between HCMC People's Committee City and Vietnam Airlines in June 2017.

Accordingly, the two sides will jointly organize at least one national and international air travel event to promote the cultural and historical traditions of the City.

Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam Airlines has transported more than 1.5 million passengers on international routes to HCMC. It also cooperated with the City in tourism promotion activities such as International Travel Expo (ITE) 2017, HCMCTourism Festival and the promotion of destinations in HCMC on the media.
