Hanoi starts construction on Formula 1 racetrack
The construction of Formula 1 circuit surrounding My Dinh Sports Complex is expected to be completed next March.
Hanoi People's Committee and Vingroup's Vietnam Grand Prix Company this morning kicked off construction of the F1 racing circuit in Nam Tu Liem district.
The circuit in Hanoi will be more than 5.5 kilometres in length with 22 turns. It will stretch over part of the My Dinh Sports Complex while one section will be part of the public road.
Vietnam’s new track is not a typical race with a unique hybrid layout, fusing a street circuit’s characteristics with a permanent countryside track layout within the confines of the city’s topography.
The groundbreaking ceremony is the official start for the world's most prestigious race to be present in Vietnam next year which is golden opportunity for Vietnamese sports and tourism.
Vietnam will be the third Southeast Asian country to host a F1 race, following Malaysia and Singapore.
The F1 race in Hanoi will be held in April 2020 with seven - day event, including parades, showcasing of racecars and other events. Streets will be barricaded for around four to five days before the racing event starts and traffic rerouted through other streets.
Designed by Formula One Group and German's architect Hermann Tilke's company, F1 racetrack in Vietnam will meet the stringent technical and safety standards.
