It is expected that France will export about 3,000 tonnes of potatoes to the Vietnam market in the first quarter of 2018, according to Alexandre Bouchot, French Agricultural Counselor.

At the press conference on the International Food Industry Exhibition 2017 (Vietnam Foodexpo 2017), Alexandre Bouchot said that France has submitted dossiers, certificates of quality and safety of its potatoes to Vietnamese authorities.

The French authorities also invited Vietnamese delegations to visit France to inspect the potato production process. Currently, the process of testing French potato products is in the final stage.

"Next week, there will be a license from Vietnamese authorities to allow the export of French potatoes to Vietnam," said Alexandre Bouchot.

He also said that there are only a few countries allowed to export potatoes to Vietnam, with China being the main potato exporter while there is still a shortage of potatoes on the Vietnam market. The U.S and India are also Vietnam’s partners in this field.

If everything follows its track, France will be the first European country to export potatoes to Vietnam. Alexandre Bouchot said that France’s over 400 different types of potatoes will definitely meet the different needs of Vietnamese consumers.

The Vietnam Foodexpo 2017 will not only attract Vietnamese exhibitors from more than 30 provinces and cities nationwide but also a lot of foreign exhibitors from 15 countries and territories. Exhibition areas at Vietnam Foodexpo 2017 will be arranged in the subject lines, including vegetables, seafood, beverages, tea and coffee, food ingredients, processed foods and food processing technology and equipment.
