Vietnam aviation industry sets the target to become one of four largest ones in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in terms of transport volume by 2030.
By 2030, Vietnam is expected to establish and develop three passenger and cargo transport centers on a par with the ASEAN region as well as develop a modern and advanced air navigation management system.
Specifically, Vietnam will operate a system of 23 airports including 13 domestic ports and 10 international ports with a total area of over 13,300ha by 2020. According to the plan for development of air transport in the period up to 2020, orientation to 2030, the total investment capital is estimated to reach VND84,400 billion (equipvalent to US$3.7 billion).

By 2030, the number of airports in Vietnam is projected to be raised to 28 with 15 domestic airports and 13 international ports. This phase will focus on the second stage construction of Long Thanh International Airport, infrastructure investment for Chu Lai International Airport in order to make it become the center of international cargo transportation.
Moreover, all international port are expected to be built synchronously.
The estimated total investment capital for this period reached more than VND266 trillion (roughly US$11.6 billion).
The number of aircrafts will reach more than 220 by 2020 and over 400 by 2030 and all of aircrafts will be equipped with modern technology and in line with the standards and capabilities of the airport infrastructure.
Regarding aviation businesses, Vietnam will continue stepping up the restructure of state-owned enterprises by 2020 in order to create favorable conditions.
In term of aviation industry, Vietnam aims to produce some components of the aircraft's interior and develop a center for research, development and application of technologies and techniques.
By 2030, Vietnam will establish regional-level centers for maintenance, overhaul of engines and aviation equipment as well as step by step participate in the supply chain of products and services of global aviation industry.
