Duty-free cars from Thailand and Indonesia flocking to Vietnam

Last week witnessed 894 cars of nine seaters or fewer imported to Vietnam from Thailand and 105 units from Indonesia.

Nearly 1,500 cars of various kinds were imported to Vietnam from Thailand last week

Statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs shows that last week (from July 27 to August 2, the number of automobiles imported to Vietnam increased significantly compared to the previous week.

Last week, Vietnamese automobile enterprises imported to Vietnam 1,935 units of automobiles with the total value of about $39.7 million. Whereas, the previous week experienced the import of only 570 units worth $13.7 million.

Automobiles entering Vietnam last week were mostly manufactured in Thailand with 1,469 units, making up 76 per cent. There were also 306 units from Indonesia, 81 units from South Korea, 10 units from Turkey, nine units from China, three units from Japan…

Automobiles imported to Vietnam last week are mostly cars of nine seaters or fewer with 1,058 units worth $19.6 million, accounting for 55 per cent of the total number of imported automobiles.

These cars were mostly manufactured in Thailand with 894 units, accounting for 85 per cent of the total number of nine or fewer seat cars entering Vietnam last week. There were also 105 units of this type imported from Indonesia and 54 units from India.

Last week, there was only one unit of over nine-seater automobile entering Vietnam. This one was manufactured in China.

Last week, 769 units of trucks were imported to Vietnam worth nearly $11.87 million in total. Specifically, 565 units of these cars were manufactured in Thailand and 201 units were produced in Indonesia.

In terms of special-purpose vehicles, Vietnamese enterprises imported 104 units with the total value of $8.3 million. Seventy-nine units of these vehicles were from South Korea, 10 units were from Thailand.
