With 41 per cent of the population aged within the golden demographic and the rapid increase in high net worth individuals’ and middle-class families, Vietnam is becoming a fertile land for foreign investors to jump in education projects as regulations are stimulating.
It is possible that Vietnam will someday have something comparable to Yale-NUS University in Singapore, which has extremely competitive admissions standards and around 40% of enrolled students from abroad.
According to Ph.D. Le Dang Doanh, the proposal of training 9,000 PhDs of the Ministry of Education should particularly focus on the quality. If the Ph.D. number is high but the quality does not live up to expectation, such a costly project is just useless.
Indeed, it is reasonable to suspect that high and growing costs of private education are becoming a major concern around Vietnam.
