$585 million capitalized Ha Long - Hai Phong expressway is officially open to traffic

The expressway helps to shorten the time of going from Ha Long to Hai Phong from nearly two hours to a half hour and the Hanoi – Ha Long route now takes only one hour and a half instead of three to four hours as before.
Ha Long - Hai Phong expressway is the first project carried out by the provincial budget and capital mobilized from the public-private partnership (PPP) form because of a large investment.
After nearly four years of being under construction with total investment of over VND13.6 trillion (around $585), the 24.6 kilometers long – expressway has four lanes and allows vehicles to drive with the maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
Thanks to the expressway, the Hanoi – Ha Long route and Ha Long – Hai Phong route now are only 130 kilometers and 25 kilometers compared to 180 and 75 kilometers respectively as before.
It connects Highway 18 which is in northeastern Ha Long city of Quang Ninh province with the Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway in Hai Phong’s Hai An district.
The project is an evidence showing Vietnam’s ability in road and bridge construction when it as designed and invested by Vietnamese people.
Ha Long - Hai Phong expressway is expected to promote the connectivity of economic triangle including Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh and create more opportunities to socio-economic growth.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that Ha Long - Hai Phong expressway is a significant breakthrough, not only carrying forward the expressway’s value but also opening wide space for economic development of triangle.
