On the occasion of World Windsurfing Championship in An Bang beach, Hoi An – Vietnam’s World Heritage, TheLEADER View would like to give a review of recent international windsurfing championships held in Vietnam, which also indicates growth potential for Vietnam’s maritime economy.

1. In the afternoon of June 11th, at An Bang beach (Hoi An city, Quang Nam province), the opening ceremony of 2017 RS: One World Championship and 2017 Vietnam Sailboat Race, which were held in Vietnam for the first time.

Jointly organized by Vietnam Canoeing, Rowing & Sailing Federation, Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and International Windsurfing Association, these events took place from June 11th to 14th in the 6thQuang Nam Heritage Festival 2017.

2. The International Windsurfing Fun Cup 2017 was held in February 17th and 18th by Jibe’s Beach Club and Binh Thuan Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This is an annual event that helps create a common ground for local and international competitors in Phan Thiet city.

3. The 1st Kien Giang Windsurfing Championship was held on May 5th and 6th, 2016 at Dinh Cau beach, Phu Quoc district, Kien Giang province.

The board of organizers hoped that this event would help promote windsurfing in both Kien Giang and other coastal provinces.

4. At 2016 Christmas, Vung Tau Marina International Windsurfing Championship was organized by Ba Ria – Vung Tau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Viet-Czech Technology Jointly Stock Company. This event paved the way for the growth of local tourism in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.w

With a coastline of over 3.000 kilometers and thousands of islands, Vietnam shows great growth potential in water sports and tourism. Windsurfing has been adopted as a service for tourists, but it still remains unfamiliar to the local.
The flourishing of windsurfing would promote tourism, which not only improves the living standards of local fishermen but also raises their awareness in marine environment protection. Besides, it also precedes the sailboat production and its support services.
