Vingroup launches Vinpearl Air and aviation training facilities
Vingroup is now spreading its wings further into aviation sector with the launch of an airline and other aviation training facilities.
The largest private enterprise in Vietnam has announced its opening of a pilot training school on the same day as its launch of Vinpearl Air Aviation JSC with a chartered capital of VND1.3 trillion (over $56 million).
The business registration office under the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment, on May 29, has given the green light to Vingroup’s property and tourism arm VinAsia Development Service and Trading JSC to rename as Vinpearl Air JSC, specialising in aviation services.
The new airline is headquartered at the Vinhomes Riverside urban area in Hanoi.
While the expansion of Vingroup into aviation may well take advantage of the rising air transport demand at present, it will also likely face a stiff competition where new airline like Bamboo Airways and existing low-cost carrier VietJet Air have been aggressively vied for market share and experienced pilots from the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.
Vingroup has signed an agreement with CAE Oxford Aviation Academy, the world’s leading airline training organisation, to establish VinAviation School and Vinpearl Air Training Centre in Vietnam.
The enrollment is expected to open this August.
The aviation school will focus on training pilots and technicians meeting standards set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), by the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as well as the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA).
VinAviation School targets at upskilling 400 pilots and technicians each year.
Meanwhile, the air training centre is designed to provide training to pilots, machinists and flight operators, flight attendants as well as other aviation personnel.
Vice chairman and CEO of Vingroup Nguyen Viet Quang said that the real estate giant aims to deal with the shortage of pilots in Vietnam and then, to export local pilots overseas.
