Vietnam Airlines earned pre-tax profit of US$48 million in past summer

TheLEADERAlthough the domestic aviation market has grown slowly and shown the signs of saturation, Vietnam Airlines still recorded a profit exceeding plan.

Vietnam Airlines' consolidated revenue in the first nine months reached over VND65 trillion (US$2.86 billion) increasing 20% over the same period in 2016.

Vietnam Airlines achieved pre-tax profit of VND2,261 billion (nearly US$100 miilion), equal to 138% of target in 2017. Last year, Vietnam Airlines earned only VND2,600 billion (about US$114 million)

In the past summer (in Q3 of 2017), profit of this company set a record with 1.092 billion (more than US$48 million). In the summer of 2016, Vietnam Airlines earned about VND500 billion (US$22 million) in pre-tax profit.

Vietnam Airlines said that while the domestic aviation market slowed down and showed signs of saturation, market share of this company and its subsidiaries such as Jetstar Pacific (JPA) and Vasco remained at 56%.

According to statistics of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in September 2017, the number of flights reached 31,050 flights increasing only by 6.8% compared with September 2016.

In the first 9 months, Vietnam Airlines has a transportation of 16 million passengers and 235.000 tons of cargo.

Vietnam Airlines said that thanks to the investment in the form of sale and sublease instead of using loans, it does not have to use the government's loan guarantee for its investment activities including the investment of 10 aircraft Airbus A350 - 900 worth about US$1.8 billion.
