Due to some obstacles in the implementation of site clearance, the project was kicked off on December 21 instead of October 2018 as expected.
The Song Khoai industrial zone is the first project of Amata Vietnam, a subsidiary of Thailand-based Amata Corporation, in Quang Ninh province. The project would be implemented in five phases within 50 years, with total investment capital of nearly $156 million.
The first phase of the project is constructed on an area of 123 hectares and expected to become operational in 2020.
The Song Khoai industrial park is aimed at developing the infrastructure system to attract investors to the park while helping boost the growth of the province alongside ensuring social balance and environmental protection.
This is the third project of the Thai group in Vietnam, following Amata City Bien Hoa comprising of total areas of 700 hectares and Long Thanh industrial park both located in Dong Nai province in the South of Vietnam.
The first industrial zone project of Amata Group in Vietnam, Amata City Bien Hoa established in 23 years ago became its first overseas investment one of Amata and has attracted 164 investors originating from 21 countries and territories amounting to the total investment capital of over $2.66 billion, generating jobs for around 49,000 laborers.
According to Quang Ninh province’s leaders, the project is not only important to the development of Quang Yen town but also greatly contributes to the development strategy of Quang Ninh province. Furthermore, it is a step towards the development of the Quang Yen coastal economic zone in the future
Chairman of the Quang Ninh People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long asked the relevant agencies of Quang Ninh to support and create optimal conditions for the investor to promptly deal with administrative procedures for the project, thus ensuring its progress, guaranteeing water and power supply, and security for the project.
He also requires Amata City Halong to follow Vietnam’s laws and regulations while implementing the project, especially ensure environmental protection and labor safety.
Earlier in September 2018, Quang Ninh ’s People Committee assigned the provincial Department of Construction to coordinate with related departments and agencies to support Amata to complete its report on the proposal in the study of a 1,720ha smart city within the high-tech industrial complex.
Sharing with TheLEADER, CEO of Amata Vietnam Somhatai Panichewa said that the project would bring about $5 billion per year in revenue and 300,000 jobs for people in Quang Ninh and other provinces.
The project also creates motivation for Quang Ninh in attracting foreign direct investment. This has been seen as Amata’s strategic step in expanding to the north of Vietnam.
