Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested Samsung to keep expanding its business, eventually to turn Vietnam into the largest strategic hub of the tech giant.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has just received Vice Chairman of Samsung Group Lee Jae-yong in Hanoi and said that as Samsung has made a significant contribution in developing e-Government in South Korea, Samsung could do the same to the country.
Phuc asked the South Korean conglomerate to expand its investments in other major fields like semiconductors, infrastructure, energy, etc in Vietnam rather than focusing mainly on manufacturing and assembling electronic products.
The PM also hoped that Samsung will deploy the Samsung Research and Development Centre project in the country and continue to offer practical support in terms of training and technology transfer to assist Vietnam’s supporting industry.
The PM promised that Vietnamese Government will further facilitate the group to do business successfully here.
Lee appreciated the Government and PM’s support for Samsung, affirming the group will continue to make long-term investments and expand its business in Vietnam.
Samsung wanted to raise the proportion of locally-made components in its products, he said, noting that the group has been making considerable efforts to help with human resource development in Vietnam.
Samsung not only focuses on manufacturing, but it is also promoting research and development (R&D) in Vietnam. The group is currently making efforts to partner with more Vietnamese companies in terms of supply of parts and human resources, Lee added.
Lee stated that he will review if there are any other sectors in which Samsung can make investments as suggested by the PM after discussing with the group’s executives upon his return home.
