"In all fields, Japanese businesses are very interested in the Vietnamese market," said Chief Representative of JETRO Hanoi

Mr. Kitagawa Hironobu - Chief Representative of JETRO Hanoi discussed with TheLEADER.

Discussing with TheLEADER, Kitagawa Hironobu, Chief Representative of JETRO (Japan Trade Promotion Agency) Hanoi also said that not only in the field of food processing but also in food service in the future, there is increasing expansion of Japanese companies in Vietnam.

Kitagawa added that besides businesses investing in Vietnam, there are many other Japanese companies coming to JETRO to learn and research the food industry in Vietnam, which is a great opportunity for Vietnam to develop.

However, he said that information on the Vietnam food industry has not been updated, making it difficult for foreign businesses to access the market.

It is expected that in the coming time, JETRO Hanoi will organize more investigations and connections, creating opportunities for Vietnamese food enterprises to connect, exchange ideas with Japanese enterprises that have plan of investment in Vietnam market.

In his keynote speech at the "Vietnam Food Industry Conference", Kitagawa said that raising farmers' incomes would directly lead to raising the living standards of the whole society.

In order to achieve that goal, Vietnam businesses need to increase their product value through processing technology and produce highly competitive products.

Mashiko Yosuke, Managing Director of 4P's Pizza Company, reaffirmed Vietnam's advantages in developing the food industry. In the coming time, he pledged and expected to bring Vietnam more deeply into this company's pizza chain through self-production of cheese as well as development of some specialty vegetables in Dalat.

Mashiko also said that it is expected that 4P's Pizza will build an experimental farm in Dalat to combine production with touring services to further enhance the value chain.

Saka Harumi from Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan said that in order to develop agriculture and improve the quality of food industry in Vietnam, it is necessary to build food value chain from the production, process and distribution to consumption.

In addition, Vietnam needs to take appropriate measures based the natural conditions of each region as well as the support from the related ministries and departments. In particular, private sector investment should be linked to economic development cooperation.
