On June 26th (Vietnam time), it was reported that Bamboo Airways and Boeing signed a commitment to purchase 20 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners which are scheduled for delivery from April 2020 to 2021.

The signing ceremony was conducted at the US Chamber of Commerce office, which was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue. This deal is reported to amount to $5.6 billion at current list prices.

Chairman of FLC Group Trinh Van Quyet said that: “These new 787 Dreamliners will be into our fleet in preparation of launching long-haul operations to international markets.”

According to Trinh Van Quyet, Bamboo Airways’s long-term vision is to connect Vietnam to key markets within Asia, Europe and North America, in which Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will play a vital part because of its superior economics and efficiency.

The chairman of FLC Group added that Boeing Dreamliner’s high-end interior design is in line with Bamboo Airways’ target to become Vietnam’s first airline to provide First Class seats.

Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president of Asia Pacific and India Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes said that: “We are delighted to welcome Bamboo Airways to the Boeing family and we look forward to Bamboo joining the growing group of global airlines that fly the 787 Dreamliner.”

He also showed his confidence that the Boeing 787 will help launch Bamboo's long-haul operations and serve as the foundation of their success for many coming years.

According to the information from Boeing, the 787 Dreamliner is an all-new and super-efficient family of commercial airplanes. Since 2011, more than 640 Dreamliners have been delivered, flying over 226 million people on more than 680 unique routes around the world, saving an estimated 10 billion pounds of fuel.

At six meters longer than the 787-8, the 787-9 have higher capacity and range, flying more passengers and more cargo farther.

In last March, FLC Group also signed an initial agreement with Airbus SE for 24 A321NEO aircraft in France in $3.1 billion deal.
