Viettel Telecom fined nearly US$4,000 for its involvement in smuggling

TheLEADERNinh Binh provincial People's Committee has issued a decision on administrative sanction to Viettel Telecom Corporation (Viettel Telecom), a member of Viettel Group for trading in illegally-imported goods valued from VND100,000,000 (US$4,400) and above, according to the local authority.

Viettel Telecom is deemed to constitute behavior associated with trading in smuggled goods including 83,000 fast connectors, 200 mobile phones Viettel V6216, 120 USB router wi-fi 4G-D6606 and 10 wi-fi transmitters TP-W8151N.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province has decided to apply an administrative sanction with a fine of VND90,000 million (US$3,960) to Viettel Telecom and confiscated all material evidence, for the act of violation.

Earlier, Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee received a written request from the Director of Public Security of Ninh Binh Province and the record of administrative sanction No. 15/BB-VPHC dated June 07, 2017 made by Economic Police division under Ninh Binh Provincial Public Security Department and relevant documents related to this case.

Answering press on the sanction decision of the People's Committee of Ninh Binh Province, Viettel Telecom's representative affirmed that the company had not smuggled and papers of the shipment had been provided to Ninh Binh provincial authorities.

However, the provincial authorities still decided to impose administrative sanction because, at the time of inspection, the company had not provided the goods delivery cum internal transport note as stipulated in the Joint Circular. No. 64/2015 / TTLT-BTC-BCT-BCA-BQP dated May 08, 2015.
