Van Don-Mong Cai expressway project is invested in the form of BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) contract with the payback time estimated for 20 years. The project has the length of 80.2 kilometers (km) and four lanes with the design speed of 100km per hour. The total investment capital is estimated at VND11,195 billion (US$493 million).
The expressway belongs to districts of Van Don, Tien Yen, Dam Ha, Hai Ha and Mong Cai city. The route starts in Doan Ket commune, Van Don district and ends at Km150+339, Mong Cai city.
Expectedly, the selection of investors will be completed in the second quarter of 2018 in order to start the project in third quarter, 2018. When completed, the expressway will connect the coastal provinces and northern mountainous provinces with economic zones, entertainment and recreation resorts located in Quang Ninh province.
This expressway also connects with two other key transport projects of Quang Ninh province, namely Hai Phong - Ha Long expressway and Ha Long - Van Don expressway, which are expected to be completed in 2018.
Specifically, Hai Phong– Ha Long expressway consists of two component projects.
Firstly, Bach Dang bridge, BOT route and intersection, covers the total capital of more than VND7.2 trillion (US$317 million) and has the length of 5.4 km. The project is expected to be put into use before June 30.
Secondly, the road linking Ha Long city with Bach Dang bridge was invested by the Quang Ninh Department of Transport with total investment of overVND6.4 trillion (US$281.7 million) from the provincial budget. This route has the length of 19.8 km with four lanes and is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of this year.
When all these projects go into use, Quang Ninh will have a synchronous transport system with 182 km of expressway, forming the expressway system of Hanoi - Hai Phong - Ha Long - Mong Cai and connecting the expressways of Hanoi - Ninh Binh, Hanoi - Lao Cai.
Besides, Van Don international airport, when completed, will form a dynamic economic triangle axis in the north of Vietnam and facilitate the domestic and international transportation.
Van Don international airport project which has a total investment of over VND7.4 trillion (US$325.7 million) will be completed and put into operation in the third quarter of 2018.
