Vietnam’s Trung Son Hydro Power Station units 1 to 4 start operation with Toshiba Hydro turbines and generators

TheLEADERToshiba Corporation has announced to start operating all hydro turbines and generators of units 1 to 4 at Vietnam’s Trung Son Hydro Power Station located in Thanh Hoa Province, manufactured by Toshiba Hydro Power (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. (THPC).

Thanks to the strength of positive evaluations of THPC’s technology and equipment reliability, it won its first equipment supply order in Vietnam from Trung Son Hydropower Company in August 2013 for a 260MW plant financed by the World Bank. All hydro turbines and generators of units 1 to 4 at Vietnam’s Trung Son Hydro Power Station manufactured by THPC have been commercially operated.

“Toshiba has over 120 years’ experience of delivering high-quality hydro power systems for projects around the world, and THPC has drawn on this deep know-how and our technological advantages in hydropower generation to achieve advanced capabilities,” said Takao Konishi, Vice President of Toshiba’s Energy Systems & Solutions Company that installed its first hydropower system in Vietnam in 1964.

Takao Konishi also affirmed to continue supporting Vietnam in meeting its fast rising energy demand. The government of Vietnam is planning to raise the generating capacity from current 34GW to 75GW in 2020 and to 146.8GW by 2030.
