About 900 delegates and 500 domestic and foreign investors and enterprises are expected to join the Hanoi 2017 – Investment and Development Cooperation Conference held in Hanoi on June 25.

The conference expects to forge a playing field for investors, enterprises, and representatives to beef up investment and advertise investment potentials and opportunities of Hanoi. The local authorities expect to introduce key goals, project portfolio which calls for investment in the 2017-2020 period; consult experience, technology, and solutions to develop Hanoi towards smart urban areas, integration, and sustainable development.

The conference aims at meeting with investors, enterprises, representatives of several cities all over the world which have cooperation with Hanoi, representatives of embassies, commercial counseling agencies, representative offices of foreign investors, associations, domestic and international organizations to strengthen the attraction of domestic and international investments by effectively deploying investment promotion programs, commerce, tourism into the capital city; continuing introducing the city’s potentials, chances of investment.

Delivering a speech at the conference, Hanoi People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said: "Hanoi 2016 - Investment and Development Cooperation with a message: "Enterprise is the driving force for the development of the Capital", "Hanoi attaches great importance to social investment resources"; "Hanoi welcomes and wishes to cooperate with all investors, enterprises, experts, organizations inside and outside for the sustainable development". Today, I am very pleased to be with you all for the results of the past year, discussing Hanoi's development orientation and commitment to cooperate for 2017 and beyond.


Chairman Chung stressed: "Making Hanoi a modern city, worthy of being one of the region's major centers has always been a difficult and challenging task. In the 2017-2020 period, the City identified the following key tasks:

First, the implementation of solutions to improve the life quality of the Capital's people, towards the standards in the region and the world, focusing on five areas: environment, clean water, health - education, transportation, park - entertainment area.

Second, preserving Hanoi's thousand-year cultural identity alongside Hanoi's modernity and dynamism.

Third, towards building a smart city, attaching importance to the application of scientific and technological advances and the application of information technology in order to raise the quality of serving people and enterprises such as the synchronous digitization of the core databases: population, enterprises and land. To complete the three-level electronic one-stop system connected with the online public-service system, ensuring the online service provision rate in 2017 on 40% and by 2020 it is 70 - 80%. Implementation of electronic car parking, electronic environment monitoring, smart urban construction.

Fourth, striving for Hanoi as the pioneer city of the country to improve the business investment environment, support business development and sustainable economic growth; international integration and application of advanced scientific and technical achievements in the world.

Fifth, concentrating on investing in the synchronous construction of technical infrastructures, creating a modern and civilized urban appearance. To build a system of roads connecting the fast and spreading from the center to the peripheries, the centripetal road system; investing in the implementation of the Nhat Tan - Noi Bai urban center project.

According to him, in the trend of development of information technology, the application of the Internet in the world, to develop and integrate, countries and cities cannot help accelerating the construction of e-government, promoting the application of information technology in the operation of state administrative agencies, providing online public services to shorten the exchange time, facilitating business development.

Information technology is an important tool to enhance investment attraction, support investment development, promote effective production and business.

Vietnam has a strong relationship with many partner countries, including the United States, which is the first element of US Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's visit to Washington, after US President Donald Trump took over the country.

He said that the first is pollution of rivers and lakes in the inner city, this is the biggest problem of the city today. "Although the city government has made new projects and has made some improvements to the environment, it is still unclear. Currently, a number of Japanese companies have developed technologies that use chemicals that do not harm the environment in the production process. I think that Hanoi needs a good environment to attract private entrepreneurs to develop to reduce environmental pollution," he stressed.

"The second is air pollution, we need to develop urban rail system, to reduce traffic in the city. During the past years, Japan has worked closely with Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular to offer solutions to maintain the railway system. I think the Hanoi government should have good support for private businesses to attend more. At the same time, development of transport orientation, creating mechanism to allow private enterprises to finance the development of urban railways. The Government of Japan will continue to deepen cooperation with Vietnam to reduce environmental pollution," he added.
