MoC has officially responded to the Ha Noi city People's Committee regarding the urban zoning plan for Hanoi railway station and surrounding areas scaled 1/2,000 (the zoning plan).

According to the zoning plan, the planned area has a total area of 98.1ha and belongs to the administrative boundaries of four districts including Dong Da, Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh and Hai Ba Trung. This is a historic inner-city area where high-rise buildings and increase in population are not allowed.

MoC stated that renovation on large scale and construction of buildings having from 40 to 70 stories (the height of up to 200m) will have a great impact on traffic and architectural space as well as the urban landscape in Hanoi railway station area in particular and the historic inner-city area in general.

Currently, this area covers the population of 40,300 people. Expectedly the population in the planned area will increase to 44,000 people (up 10 per cent). In addition, the creation of various types of commercial, financial and entertainment services will increase the number of visitors to use services in the planned area, MoC said.

In the zoning plan, the capability of technical infrastructure has not been sufficiently calculated and analyzed, especially the urban transport system for the population increase and the formation of high-rise buildings and multi-functional and general service works to ensure no traffic jams in the planned area.

Therefore, MoC proposed that the zoning plan should be thoroughly studied in terms of population to ensure no overload on urban infrastructure, especially the transport in the planned area.
