The 15-member board newly established by PM will advise him on mid- and long-term economic policies and annual socio-economic development strategies.

They will also offer recommendations on how to boost the economy of Viet Nam and respond to fluctuations of local and global economies.

The think tank is given a privilege to work directly and proactively with ministries and local authorities, and cooperate with other local and international experts and contributors.

Among the members selected for the advisory group, include four professors from renowned universities in the United States, France, Japan and Singapore – key partners of Viet Nam. The rest are respected experts and economists in Viet Nam.

Dr. Vu Viet Ngoan was appointed as Head of the Economic Advisory Group. He was the former Chairman of the National Financial Supervisory Commission.

PM held a dialogue with his advisors just one day after announcing to set up the economic advisory group. The members expressed their informed opinions in this first meeting.

The head of the advisory group, Dr. Ngoan, believed that in order to achieve an annual growth rate of more than 7%, the government should increase investment efficiency and labor productivity, instead of depending on capital and natural resources.

The target for economic growth is 6.7% this year, which experts see as a challenge for the economy of Viet Nam, given a modest growth in the first six months.
