“The private economy recorded huge success compared to previous years. The number of private enterprises now in Vietnam accounts for 96.7%, while the number for state-owned enterprises and FDI enterprises stands at 0.5% and 2.8% respectively,” cited the PM's speech.

The PM stressed that the 14 participating groups are most successful private groups which have made important contributions to the national economy.

The PM also raised the issue that out of total 496,000 businesses, only 10,000 businesses are medium and large enterprises, while the 486,000 remains are small and micro-sized enterprises. "So, what is the bottleneck of this problem? Which obstacles needed to be solved to facilitate the private sector? What are the problems in the development guideline of our private economy in accordance with The Party Central Committee's 5th plenum? Why the private sector in Vietnam has not developed strongly? What should the state do to help the private sector develop?," said the PM.

The PM said he wants the enterprises to honestly talk about their difficulties and challenges, emphasizing that the purpose of the dialogue was to ask and answer.

“We want you to speak out to help us create favorable legal and business environments, allowing the private sector to develop in the right direction,” he added.

According to statistics, the private sector is an important engine for the country’s economic development. From 2010 onwards, the private sector has contributed over 43% of GDP while the share of the state sector is about 28.9%.

Nearly two months ago, at the Vietnam Business Forum 2017 with the participation of about 1,000 private businesses, the PM set a target to increase the proportion of private sector contribution from 43% to 50-60% of the country’s GDP.

"The key of Vietnam's economic growth lies in the hand of private sector," he said.

He affirmed that the Government will collect feedback from the enterprises to improve the business climate, remove institutional and legal obstacles in order to facilitate the private sector’s development.
