John Kerry: 'Vietnam can become one of the most powerful economy in the world'

TheLEADERJohn Kerry, former United States Secretary of State, said that Vietnam is moving in a remarkable way and is an amazing thing.

He said that Vietnam has shown great change and everything now is completely different from the first time he came to this country when most Vietnamese people were cycling on the street and there were very few motorcycles.

John Kerry said more than 20 years ago, there were less than 60,000 American people in Vietnam but now there are at least half a million coming regularly.

20 years ago, the bilateral trade turnover of the two countries only reached US$400 million but now this figure is more than US$45 billion.

After two decades, the US - Vietnam relationship has been developed from cooperation to partnership and Vietnam now become one of the major export markets to the US.

John Kerry also said that the world is moving faster and faster demanding that Vietnam also moves up faster with decisions on the business environment, transparency and energy.

He insisted that if Vietnam continues to fight against corruption, consolidate legal process and make sure a sustainable business growth, Vietnam will be able to become one of the most powerful economies.

Vietnam also needs to find ways to develop aimed at creating a quality life in which people have opportunity to enjoy a lean air and provide a long-term future for the next generation.

According to John Kerry, the key for development is technology so Vietnam needs to develop faster in technology in order to cut costs and make good use of the opportunities in the context of deep integration as today.
