Hanoi People’s Committee has submitted a document to the Minister of Construction to ask for the direction on the study and proposal of the 36-storey commercial, hotel and apartment complex located at No. 200, Yen Phu street.

Accordingly, Hanoi People’s committee received a document attached with procedures from Thang Loi Hotel JSC asking for the approvement of the 36-storey complex that is expected to be developed on the land of the current Thang Loi hotel.

The hotel has the total land area of more than 4.2 hectares with three-storey buildings and one-storey restaurant area. According to the decision of Hanoi People’s committee in December 2015, it has agreed to let the company continue to use the land to do business in the hotel industry.

In the new architectural proposal, Thang Loi Hotel recommends to remain existing one – three-storey constructions and remove the hotel services at the center of the land to build a new complex including 36 stories and three basements with a combination of services, trade, hotels and serviced apartments.

Responding to this proposal, Hanoi People’s committee said that according to the master plan for the construction of Hanoi approved by the Prime Minister on 26 July 2011, Thang Loi Hotel is located in the West and surrounding areas which do not allow the construction of high-rise buildings and other activities encroaching on the West Lake space.

Thang Loi hotel has special architecture and preserves space and architectural values of history, culture, and landscape.

Based on the Hanoi planning on tourism development to 2020, orientation to 2030 that has been approved, Hanoi people’s committee said that the renovation and upgrading of Thang Loi hotel are necessary, creating a highlight for the West Lake area and Hanoi tourism. However, the proposed 36-storey building of the company is in excess of regulations.

Thang Loi Hotel is a four-star international standard hotel with 175 rooms, located on Yen Phu Street. This hotel was put into operation in mid-1975 as a present from Cuban people.

At the end of 2014, 30 per cent stake in Thang Loi hotel was purchased by BRG group, a multi-sector, diversified business group that includes finance, golf courses and real estates with five stars Hilton Hanoi Opera and Sheraton Grand Danang hotels.

Until the end of December 2016, Thang Loi Hotel JSC and Hilton Worldwide signed a management agreement for two hotel complexes including Hilton Hanoi Westlake and DoubleTree with the expected scale of 610 rooms that are expected to be opened by 2020.
